I am very sorry to announce the passing of our former webmaster Alene Brede, who has been struggling with breast cancer for a couple of years. Information about her memorial will be posted on our website. I first met Alene when I joined the 11th LD Democrats in 2003. We were assigned the task of doing credentials for the 2004 caucus—me because I came into the organization ranting about election integrity, and Alene because her profession was setting up computer systems for small businesses. She impressed me as being one sharp lady, and was excellent at foreseeing problems that might arise. We had to calculate delegate numbers for four candidates in each of three separate congressional districts. After sharing that experience, I decided that I’d buy my next computer system from her. I’m still using it. And we did the same thing in 2008 with only two candidates, but far higher attendance. She set up and maintained our website until no longer able to do it. She was also a talented musician, who played flute for us at many or our events. We all will miss her so much.
